The Clarity Conversation

Russell Williams

We do not see things as they are. We see them as we are.

The Talmud

Are these agitating times?  Yes!

In the early chapters of the 21st century, we are encountering the birthing pains of an emerging global community.   In 1859, Charles Dickens described a similar time in his famous novel, A Tale of Two Cities, when he crafted his brilliant opening sentence, “It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.”   Fast-forward 150 years and what we might say about now?  It is a time of turbulence; It is an age of transformation.

While our world community stumbles into uncharted economic, political, and social paradigms, what is happening at the level of the individual…you and me… pursuing our lives at home, in the community and at work?  One word describes the perception of millions….uncertainty!  That word can be pictured quickly in our mind as we maneuver or scramble to handle the big problems constantly coming our way.

Is the purpose of problems to confuse, tear down or destroy?  I don’t see it that way.  Rather, life’s big problems come with possibilities for transformation through the pure lens of clarity.  Most often, we seek safety, not clarity.  Moving from confusion to clarity…often with someone’s accompaniment…demands personal courage inviting us to reframe… emotionally, relationally, intellectually and spiritually…to discover our bigger life picture.

Accompanying others in this experience has been my deepest life calling.  This work centers me in My Why.  Since the late 1970’s, I have spent significant professional time guiding people to transform their life pictures, using problems as the critical information.  In hundreds of consultations, I have come to understand what happens.  I’ve given a name to this transformative work.  I call it The Clarity Conversation.

The energy surrounding The Clarity Conversation is unique. It is defined by the courageous action of a Problem-solver. Carrying a personal or professional life challenge packaged with conflict, confusion, doubt, anxiety, anger or fear, the Problem-solver… consciously or unconsciously…finds new meaning, thinking and behavior.

Individuals engaged in The Clarity Conversation pursue a purposeful season in their life where they are focused on reframing perception and re-tooling behavior.  What are the results of The Clarity Conversation?  Based on a four-part process I have developed, the short term results are that an individual integrates new knowledge to move with greater self understanding and self trust.  In the long term an individual makes positive, productive behavior changes that create or restore their personal and professional influence for good.

How does this happen?  Let’s call it Knowing that Moves-Through-An-Open-Doorway.  What was closed, is now open.  Where there was constriction, there is now freedom.   What was a problem is now the unexpected, unanticipated gift of personal and/or professional renewal, redirection, re-purposing, or healing.

Possibly you, or someone you know, may value pursuing The Clarity Conversation with me as your guide in a  collaboration of trust.  It is my privilege to accompany another to discover it is their time to move through an open doorway.
