They Came My Way

Russell Williams

I have watched the river of my life flow for many years.  About a dozen years ago, I made a tiny observation. Now, it has my full attention.  Throughout 2012, it’s what I want to communicate and celebrate.

What was the observation? It was personal, but not profound. With laser-like clarity coupled to heartfelt gratitude, I simply noticed that certain people enter the river of our life to help us discover or reclaim the life values lessons that shape our influence for good.

If there is timeless wisdom flowing in the currents and bends of our life river, that wisdom does not simply come to us as a collection good ideas.  Rather, life’s big ideas are brought by messengers who must journey with us for perhaps a day, a week, a month, a year, or…for many years.

They Came My Way is a collection of weekly essays of my life values messengers and the messages they communicated.  Each essay is captured in the broader context of the large, grand river of American society when each messenger came my way.

A handful of the messengers are people you will know; most are not.  Be alert and ready to observe how their messages inform and inspire your remembrance of those who have come your way.
